OREF Open Meeting 8th April 2025 – What’s a fair share? Options for community benefit from renewables projects

At this OREF event Voar Energy, supported by Community Energy Scotland and Aquatera, presented details of recent work completed on the options for community benefit from on and offshore wind projects.

The team have recently delivered a report for Shetland Islands council on the pros and cons of different models of community benefit.  Voar have also recently worked on a similar piece of work for the Just Transition Commission.  CES have been advising nationally and feeding into the updated UK and Scot Gov good practice guidance for on and offshore wind, and also published their own “A Fair Energy Deal for Scotland:  New standards for Community Benefit funds from clean power developments” as part of a wider Call to Action promoting local value and community energy.

This talk covers these reports but also discuss what they mean locally and options Orkney should be taking forward.
