Aquatera
Aquatera was established in 2000 to provide a modern and innovative suite of environmental services and products. The company delivers to local, UK and worldwide markets and has established a strong track record in the renewable energy and other energy sectors. This work includes preparation of strategic environmental assessment (SEA) and environmental impact assessment (EIA) documents for renewable energy projects and strategies, as well as resource assessment studies, risk assessments, design advice, operations support, environmental surveying, developing visualisation tools and producing information and awareness materials.
Aquatera has a passion for renewable energy development, believing that it can provide substantial amounts of quality energy, which can be used to offset energy produced from carbon-emitting technologies. In addition to experience in renewable energy, Aquatera and its associates have a vast knowledge of wider environmental and social studies, particularly in offshore and coastal areas.

Eco-Cars
My name is Jonathan Porterfield and together with my wife Ursula, we run Eco Cars from our home in Orkney and from Leicestershire. After working at various car dealerships over the years, I have built up a good relationship with many local and nationwide dealers who often contact me, as many dealers still look at electric vehicles and scratch their heads, not knowing what they have in front of them!
Working from home means we keep our costs low by not having a huge showroom. However you still have the same consumer rights as when purchasing a vehicle from a franchised dealer. We are passionate about electric powered vehicles and we specialize in sourcing them at the lowest possible cost to you, the customer.
Please feel free to talk to us any time, no question is to silly as, after buying a house, a vehicle purchase is one of the most expensive commitments you’ll make. You need to be confident you’re buying the right vehicle and from the right dealer!
As petrol and diesel prices continue to rise and greenhouse gases increase, Electric Cars are the most realistic green solution today.
We believe you couldn’t buy a used electric car or van from a better company than Eco Cars. If you can’t see the car you’re looking for on the website, give us a ring and we’ll find it for you.
Buy with Confidence: see our testimonials from recent customers on Orkney and the rest of the UK

European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC)
EMEC is the world’s first and only centre to provide developers of both wave and tidal energy converters with purpose-built, accredited open-sea testing facilities.
With 14 grid-connected test berths in close proximity to sheltered waters and harbours, there have been more marine energy converters deployed at EMEC than any other single site in the world. Attracting developers from around the globe, EMEC’s facilities help to prove what is achievable in some of the harshest marine environments.
EMEC also operates two scale test sites where smaller scale technologies, supply chain companies, and equipment manufacturers, can gain real sea experience in less challenging conditions than those experienced at the grid-connected wave and tidal test sites.
EMEC operates to relevant test laboratory standards (ISO17025) enabling the Centre to provide independently verified performance reports.
With over 10 years of unprecedented experience, EMEC also offers a range of research and consultancy services, has facilitated the development of international standards for marine energy, and is supporting the development of similar test centres across the globe.
