On 1st July, Ross Henderson of Horizontal Directional Drilling contractor OCU Group presented how their technology is forming a key part of the 220MW Orkney Project transmission link. This Trenchless technique significantly reduces disruption by being able to install cable ducts and pipelines under obstructions without impact to the surface, and in Orkney it will be used in 7 locations to pass under roads and watercourses, and to landfall the cables beneath the beach at Warebeth.
