OREF Open Meeting 3rd February 2026 – Keeping the Lights on in Orkney

Retired Hydro Electric Engineer Martin Lee gave us an insight into how the lights are kept on in Orkney and elsewhere, and what is needed for the future in Orkney as we increasingly switch to electrification of everything, to fight climate change and get to net zero.

Martin spent 14 years working in Orkney in many roles for Hydro Electric before working in Reading and finally Inverness for SSE.  He has been a member of several Energy Network Association working groups and has chaired two of them.  He retired in 2017.
