OREF held Orkney’s first hustings for the present elections to quiz the prospective MSPs on how they can contribute to a renewably powered future. The SNP, Labour, Lib Dem and Conservative candidates attended. The Green candidate was held up by the ferry disruption and the reform candidate declined to attend.
OREF had produced an Orkney Energy Manifesto following the members meeting on the 4th of November and it is at the end of this newsletter for reference. The hustings sought the views of the candidates as to how they think they can contribute to the delivery of the Manifesto and it showed a significant degree of unanimity on some matters.
All candidates present professed their thanks to OREF for arranging the event and OREF looks forward to working with the successful candidates in the coming session.
