Solar Power – OREF Open Meeting Tuesday 2nd August 2022


OREF is hosting an event on solar power on Tuesday 2nd August at ORIC, Robert Rendall Building in Stromness and online via Teams. A chance to hear experiences from Quebec and Orkney of the potential benefits of solar energy for individuals and communities. 

Patrick Goulet, visiting from Énergie Solaire Québec, will present about “What’s going on, on the other side of the pond. An overview of renewables in the province of Québec”.

Patrick will give a brief portrait of the province and a history of Hydro-Québec, explaining how and why they have nationalized electricity – highlighting the role and importance of hydro, wind and solar renewables. He will share the experiences of off-grid communities in the north of the province and the parallel between Orkney and the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of St-Lawrence.

Stuart Davie of Solar Dynamix will talk about how to “Run your car on sun-beams”, showing how adding batteries to solar panels significantly reduces your grid costs.
