OREF Open Meeting 11th April 2023 – Carbon Neutral Islands

Carbon Neutral Islands Project: Community Led Climate Action

Join Aisling Phillips, CNI Community Development Officer (CDO) for Hoy, and Becky Ford and Mark Hull from Community Energy Scotland (CES), to hear how the CNI project is supporting island communities to take the lead in tackling climate change.

Hoy is one of six islands in the Scottish Government funded Carbon Neutral Islands project which are being supported to become carbon neutral by 2040. The project is bringing together island expertise, led by local anchor organisations and local CDOs, supported by technical and community development experts at CES, to carry out carbon audits and develop island specific action plans to achieve their own fair and flourishing decarbonised future. Aisling will give an update on the first stage of Hoy’s plans and reflect on why having local folk at the heart of the process is so important.
