OREF regularly organises or co-hosts renewable energy events, attends external events, conferences and industry meetings, and hosts visitors to Orkney. Past events have included everything from informative evening talks to local trade shows, and from consultation meetings to electric vehicle shows.

Burgar Hill Over the Years
Join us for an evening at Burgar Hill, where Melissa Spence of Burgar Hill Renewables will share a bit about the history of the site and the plans to keep generation going at one of the UK’s oldest wind farms.
Burgar Hill was established as a test site for wind energy technologies in the early 1980s, and at the time, was home to one of the largest wind turbines in the world. Once the technology was proven, commercial wind generation commenced around 1999/2000. Currently the site generates approximately 12.5MW with proposed repowering plans aiming to more than double output from the same footprint, subject to consent.
The event will be held in the Visitors Centre, Burgar Hill, Evie on Tuesday 7th April at 7pm. If time and interest allow, we may also do a site walkover. We’d love to hear your own stories and memories of Burgar Hill over the years.
