Sustainable Orkney Conference online sessions – Energy Consumption
November 10 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm| Free
In May 2019 Orkney Islands Council joined organisations around the world in declaring a climate emergency. OREF welcome this step and wishes to be part of an Orkney-wide response to this. We believe, that to be able to plan an effective response as a community, it would be useful to describe Orkney’s main climate challenges (and strengths), and to know what is already being done, or is about to be done, by different organisations and individuals across the islands. This conference will allow us all to take stock locally and help Orkney plan the next steps.
In this session:
– Marie Stanton discusses Energy Consumption of the processing at Highland Park .
– Mark Hull Head of Innovation and associate professor at Heriot Watt Orkney Campus will discuss the HSO and SMILE heat projects carried out in the north west of Orkney.
The 2017-2025 Orkney Sustainable Energy Strategy, opens with the following vision statement: Orkney: a secure, sustainable, low carbon island economy driven uniquely by innovation and collaboration, enabling the community to achieve ambitious carbon reduction targets, address fuel poverty and provide energy systems solutions to the world.
To achieve this vision will take innovation and collaboration beyond the energy sector. It will take all of us across Orkney, working together as a community, sharing our unique resources, talents, knowledge and commitment to our island home.
OREF invites interested local organisations and individuals to take part in the Sustainable Orkney Conference which will be delivered via online sessions, featuring one topic each week for 6 weeks, providing a chance to come together as a community to discover what we are already doing and plan our answer to the challenge of the climate emergency.
